Watcher is an incredible psychological thriller that doesn't re-define the wheel of these types of stalker movies but just executes it so well.
This movie has a great atmosphere of paranoia with the character of Julia because throughout you question her sanity and are trying to figure out if it's all in her head or is it real?
The added element of her being in another country brings out that fear because everything is new to her and you get that uncomfortability from not being in a surrounding that is familiar.
Maika Monroe's performance is clearly the outstanding one. She plays that character exactly how the movie needed her to play it and thus it allows her to shine bright not because she did something different but instead because she blends in that world so seamlessly.
The biggest strength of this movie is the gradual build. A great horror or thriller always has that slow build up and this does too.
Watcher doesn't try to be different. It knows it's a psychological thriller and plays out all the tropes and scenes you would expect so well that I got nothing but respect for the movie.
Watcher deserves a 7.7 out of 10.
