Super Mario Bros Movie (2023) Review

The Super Mario Brothers movie was one that I was really excited to see because sometimes all we need is a popcorn eating type of movie.

And this was close to being a fun, entertaining blast.

The biggest problem this movie has is that it is too basic. Being simple is not bad and can many times be what makes a great movie.

But for this, it leans too much on the basic side and more heavily to nostalgia for the Mario brothers franchise. Trying to get as many references as possible in this movie to bring joy. Not actually focusing on the story to bring that entertainment.

Mario from the start is exactly the same character in the end and you can say about every other character from Princess Peach to Bowser.

Luigi was the only one that changed, from frightened younger brother to saving the world alongside Mario but because he barely gets any screen time his transformation feels forced and undeserved.

Obviously the highlight was Jack Black as Bowser. His voice was born for that role and the same goes to Charlie Day as Luigi. It's a shame Luigi did not get much to do.

Overall it was a good time in the cinema and that was the most packed I’ve seen a cinema in such a long time.

Super Mario Brothers Movie gets a 7.1 out of 10.
