Skinamarink Review

Skinamarink is a Shudder original horror directed by Kyle Edward Ball and follows two children whose father is missing as strange and weird experiences start to happen to them.

A movie that was unfortunately lackluster due to the way this movie was directed. The overuse of film grain made it very hard to actually see what was going on. I can understand that this might be used as a way to see the world through the eyes of the children but overtime because of not being able to see anything I lost all fear and got bored.

Sure in moments, it was effective because your mind starts to play tricks and you believe you see something that is not there. But that’s only good if it’s used sparingly but that technique was used for the whole movie so it loses that fear factor.

It was as if the original shots that were taken were not scary enough so he added on the filter to add to the mystery.

I cannot deny that the movie does look interesting but not for a whole movie.

This feels like it would work better as a short movie. Because as a feature it lacks substance or a story that has any kind of depth.

A shame because I was hoping for a truly scary experience. I will say watching it in cinema’s was a joy.
