Megan is a new horror from the mind of James Wan and directed by Gerard Johnstone and it follows a girl called Cady who loses both her parents in a driving accident and is then sent to live with her aunt Gemma.
Gemma works for a toys company and creates a new doll called Megan. Megan is an AI doll that is exactly like a human and gives it to Cady as a way for Cady to feel better but also to test if Megan is a viable toy.
But Megan becomes more than that as she essentially replaces the idea of parenting. Megan teaches, cares, and disciplines Cady. But as she becomes more intelligent she becomes more dangerous.
A story about the danger of the Ipad generation as new parents give their kids phones or tablets at younger and younger ages. Replacing the intimate moments parents have to bond with their child with Youtube videos that distract them instead.
That’s wrapped up in a lackluster horror that feels flat. A couple funny moments sprinkled out but overall a story that doesn’t fully capture the fear of raising our children with technology.
Not one that you need to see straight away. Megan gets a 6.6 out of 10.
