Aftersun Review

Aftersun directed by Charlotte Wells is a beautiful story about a father and daughter on holiday and we get to see their relationship through an intimate lens.

It's a story that is heartwarming with how the father called Calum tries his best to build a meaningful relationship with daughter Sophie.

But also it’s a sad story because Calum struggles with being a good father, this could be because of the pressure of being one or that he regrets having Sophie at such a young age.

And because of that there is an uncomfortable uncertainty that just lurks in the background. It’s like a bad dream or thought that pops up to remind us that even though they both are laughing and smiling, everything is not all right.

A story that will touch the hearts of many single parents or people who grew up with single parents.

It’s difficult for both. And this movie captures that difficulty but also highlights the beauty in that.

The performances by Paul Mescal and Frankie Corio were so natural that you forgot they were acting.

Aftersun will leave you sitting there at the end watching the credits go up and just taking in what you have seen.

Beautifully sad, Afterun deserves a 7.6 out of 10.
