2046 is the last Wong Kar Wai movie in this mini series cataloguing and looking back at his finest work.
And in true Wong Kar Wai fashion he delves deeper into the main theme that all his other movies have also looked at and that is the theme of love.
For the past six videos we have looked at the many meanings Wong Kar Wai gives love.
And in 2046 we see them all, the toxic side, the confusing side, and most importantly the beautiful side of an emotion that will affect each and every one of us.
All that is shown through our three characters, Chow, Bai Ling, and Wang Jing-Wen.
The main character and the one we get to see most of the film's perspective from is Chow. Now, his name might ring a bell because this movie is a continuation of In the Mood for Love.
And in this film we get to see how Chow coped with leaving Li-Zhen, a woman who he loved deeply.
From there we see the many different relationships that Chow tries to maintain and how they all fell apart because of his reluctance to truly move on.
Then we have Bai Ling, one of Chow’s failed relationships and one where her story is about loving someone that does not love you.
And finally Wang Jing-Wen, she loves a Japanese man that her father forbids her to see, but unlike Chow who’s forbidden love was let go, Wang Jing-Wen get’s her happy ending.
And through each character we get to see the toxic, confusing and beautiful understanding of love.
