Barbarian is a triumph of a horror movie and one that will be remembered for a long time and definitely has to be discussed as a modern horror classic.
It’s what I like in horror and that is anticipation and build up.
I don’t care much for jump scares or loud noises as the main tool in a director's toolbox of scare techniques.
I like the build up where you are just waiting and waiting and waiting for the moment the film delivers a horror punchline.
Horror is like telling a good joke, it’s all about the story before the joke lands that makes it funny.
Same applies for horror, it's about the build up beforehand that makes these movies scary.
Barbarian flourishes in that department. The story is interesting and kept me on the edge of my seat because you think it will go one way but it leaves you surprised.
Barbarian deserves a 7.8 out of 10.
